The SCAMPER method is a great way to turn one idea into several more ideas. To use this method, simply apply any of the actions below to your ideas.

Here are some examples for each

 

Substitute

   Ask your self these questions:

-Can I replace or change any parts?

-Can I use other materials?

-Can I change its shape?

-Can I change its color, roughness?

-What if I change its name?

-Can I substitute one part for another

(chalk board for maker board)

 

Combine

Ask your self these questions:

-What ideas or parts can be combined?

-What can be combined to maximize the number of uses?

-Can I combine or merge it with other objects?

-What material could be combined?

(spoon + fork = spork)

Adapt

Ask youself these questions:

-What else is like this?

-In what other field can this idea fit?

-What about fields outside your expertise?

-What ideas from outside field can apply to your concepts?

                                     ( i.e. road bike into a mountain bike)

Modify

Magnify or Minify

Ask yourself these questions:

What can be larger?
What can be smaller?

Modify the name the, color, sound, smell, shape or factor

(desktop into a laptop)

Put in another use

Ask yourself these questions:

 

What else can this be use in, on, for,with?

What are new ways can this material be used?

Eliminate

Ask yourself these questions:

What should be removed?

What would happened if the concept were smaller?

Can you divide the concept?
